Bread dipping sauce is used at certain Italian-themed chain restaurants. Here are ideas & tips for making different herb and spice infused oil mixtures, to dip bread in.

Bread dipping sauce, AKA bread dipping oil, is a ubiquitous staple of many Italian-style restaurants. Instead of a basket full of bread, which is normally served along with foil packets of butter, a section or an entire loaf of Italian or French bread is brought to the table. The bread is served along with a bottle of olive oil and a small dish of herbs. The restaurant patrons mix the oil, which is usually extra virgin olive oil, with the herbs, pieces of bread are broken off from the loaf and then dipped into the herb and oil mixture.

Garlic powder can be substituted for the granulated garlic called for in this recipe. However, garlic powder, due to its finer texture, will sink to the bottom of the dipping oil. Remember to occasionally stir the dipping oil, if garlic powder is being used in place of granulated garlic.
